Transformation
of nature and fate of Aral Lake :
In '30 of twentieth century,
goverment of ZSRR decided make basin of
Amu – darii and Syr – darii uniform area of cotton cultivation. Gradually more
and more part of water was directed to
irrigate a plantation. In 1954 – 56 was builded Kara – Kum channel, which was
made for irrigate the desert. He escorted a big part of water from top run of
Amu – darii. In 1960 for the first time was noted, that Aral Lake, which
practically deprived of water tributary, it begins to dry out . In 1990 about
40 % of former surface of lake was a salty desert yet. Fishing town Mujnak
lying near edge was founded on desert, spaced of south edge about 40 km. At the opposite,
farther north end of lake in similar distance from edge lyies harbour city
Aralsk. There is no fishes in lake – they died from bigger and bigger
saltinity. Population suffers beset desert winds, which carry sand and salt
mixed with pesticides. Frequent is throat cauncer. Rate of mortality of baby is
100.

Poisoning
of mercury water of Minamata bay in Japan:
To serious poisoning of
mercury occured in Japan near Minamata Bay in 1956. Estimated, thatz 900 people
died, today people are sick, because mercury destroyed their health. Mercury
escaped to bay from factory, which used mercurid oxide(II) as catalyst to
factory chemical reactions. By consuming crabs meat and fishes, it occured to high
rate of deaths. Syndrome symptoms induced hard poisoning of mercury determined:
Disease Of Minamata.

Sea Disasters
In 24 marca 1989 r. tanker Exxon Valdez by collision with rock caused giant leakage and ecological disaster near Alaska coasts near Prince William Bay, peninsula Kenai and strait Szelikowa. Stain of petroleum streched się on 1300 km² area, coast was flooded of black grease at the distance of 3800 km. A lot of fishes died, birds, seals, sea lions and whales. Disaster caused third officer, dirrecting in the absence of capitain, who, as demonstrated by the investigation, at the time of the accident was under the influence of alcohol. Never managed to eliminate the environmental impact of the disaster. It is estimated that most of the oil from the tanker is still in the environment.

The
sinking of Prestige
13 November 2002 a storm at the Atlantic
sea caused a crash of the sea tanker
Prestige. The hull of the tanker began to leak and dangerius fuel oil began to
flow out . The tanker began to drift , surrender to strong winds and sea
currents. After this disaster, Spanish rescue units were given the task of
towing the ship away from the coast to prevent its entry into the stranding .
They thaught, that on the high seas it would be easier to pump the contents of
the damaged containers to another vessel, but a storm hampered the rescue
action. During towering the holes in the hull were getting bigger. Three days
after the start of the first rescue oily stains reached the coasts of Galicia
and polluted beaches near the big city La Coruna .
November 18 a Spanish radio reported, that another tank in the ship broke, because on the water surface appeared a second spot of fuel oil, circa 5 kilometers long. Unfortunately, all attempts to prevent this disaster failed, and on the sixth day, 270 km away from the Galician coast , the oil tanker broke in half. Both parts sank settling at a depth of 3.5 thousand meters. The tanks were fulled with almost 70 thousand tons of oil, wich have gone to the bottom. In early December, the oil from the tanker arrived in the Portuguese coastal zone. In December already 500 km of the Spanish coast were polluted, and the oil still flows out of the sunken tanker .

Changes in aquatic ecosystems caused by human activities:
The
influence of the city on the aquatic environment:
-
Lowering of the groundwater level
-
Regulation of rivers, construction of canals
-
Contamination of surface and groundwater with municipal wastewater
-
Penetration of toxic substances from landfills into the groundwater
-
Eutrophication
-
Drainage of marshes

Przeobrażenia przyrody i losy Jeziora Aralskiego :
W latach 30 – tych XX wieku władze Związku Radzieckiego postanowiły uczynić dorzecza Amu – darii i Syr – darii jednolitym obszarem uprawy bawełny. Stopniowo coraz to większa część wód obydwu rzek była kierowana do nawadniania plantacji. W latach 1954 – 56 zbudowano kanał Kara – Kum, który miał nawadniać pustynię. Odprowadzał on wielką część wód górnego biegu Amu – darii.

Poprzez spożywanie mięsa krabów i ryb, stanowiącego podstawową dietę tamtejszych mieszkańców, doszło do dużej liczby zatruć. Zespół objawów chorobowych wywołanych ciężkim zatruciem rtęcią określa się Chorobą z Minamaty.

Katastrofy morskie :

13 listopada 2002 roku panujący na Atlantyku sztorm spowodował awarię maszyn tankowca Prestige i pęknięcie kadłuba, z którego zaczął wyciekać niebezpieczny ładunek - mazut. Trzy dni od rozpoczęcia akcji ratunkowej pierwsze plamy oleistej substancji dotarły do wybrzeży Galicji i zanieczyściły plaże w pobliżu dużego miasta La Coruna.

- zanieczyszczenie wód powierzchniowych i podziemnych ściekami komunalnymi
- przenikanie do wód gruntowych toksycznych substancji z wysypisk śmieci
- eutrofizacja wód
- osuszanie bagien
